ACADEMIC PROGRAMSAssociate Degree in Nursing
The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program provides individuals with the academic education and practical clinical skills required by the field of nursing. Successful graduates receive the Associate Degree in Nursing (Nursing (ADN) and are eligible for to apply for licensure as Registered Nurses (RNs). Nursing students spend the first three semesters (excluding any transfer credit) on the
Caribbean island of St. Kitts. In this beautiful where setting, they complete basic health science studies and the general education courses, as well as theory and clinical nursing courses. During the subsequent three-four semesters, students transfer to a fully accredited U.S. affiliate to complete their second-year nursing courses, clinical training and practicum, and any remaining general education courses. These colleges provide the necessary expertise
for IUON students to learn more advanced theory and clinical components of nursing, as practiced in the U.S. today. Courses vary by affiliate program. IUON is currently affiliated with nursing schools in Oklahoma, Kentucky, New Jersey, and Arizona. Negotiations with other potential affiliates are on going, and we are ultimately planning to expand into California, Michigan, and Puerto Rico. Upon successful completion of the program, students
receive their Associate or Bachelors Degree from both IUON and our U.S. affiliate. As a graduate of a U.S. nursing school, students are eligible to apply for licensure in the United States. Bachelors of Science Degree in NursingThe Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) program provides individuals with the ability to implement evidenced-based practice in the delivery of professional nursing care.
Evidence–based practice incorporates scientific findings in the delivery of nursing care incorporating theory and practical clinical skills required by the field of nursing to provide leadership and render safe patient care. Successful graduates receive the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Nursing (BSN) and are eligible for to apply for licensure as Registered Nurses (RNs). IUON has developed a traditional 120 credit hour BSN program that can be completed in
approximately three calendar years. Students that have successfully completed college course work prior to matriculating at IUON may be eligible for a maximum of 42 transfer credits. The admissions committee will carefully review and evaluate each applicant's transcripts, and will issue a preliminary evaluation of transfer credit. This evaluation is not official and is subject to change. University Registrar will make the final determination, once
they are in receipt of all transcripts. Students that receive transfer credit may be required to enroll in electives to satisfy the University's residency requirement. Students complete the first six semesters at our campus located on the Caribbean Island of St. Kitts. The last year of the program is completed at one of our affiliate schools located in the United States. Students transferring into our affiliates must satisfy each schools
admission and health requirements, and a criminal background check. International students must also achieve a score of 550 or higher on the TOEFL, and must be successful in obtaining a student visa to transfer to an affiliate. Students graduate with two degrees; one from IUON and the other from the U.S. affiliate. Education at IUONEducation at IUON is offered on a year-round basis. Students can now apply on a rolling-admissions basis, and enter in January, September, or May. Early application is encouraged. After successful completion of the academic program, students are awarded a degree from both the U.S. affilate and IUON. Having graduated from the U.S. Nursing program, students are eligible to apply for the RN licensure examination. In addition, students may wish to continue their education and pursue a Bachelor or Master of Science Degree.
All of the
affiliated U.S. colleges are fully accredited. IUON's ADN Program is fully accredited by the government of St. Kitts and provisionally accredited for the BSN Program. IUON plans to obtain independent accreditation from other applicable boards of nursing and regional accrediting bodies. In addition, IUON received a Charter from the government of St. Kitts and approval to grant an Associate and Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Faculty members are
experienced administrators and professors who have taught in U.S. colleges for many years. They are fully credentialed experts in their respective fields.
