Associate Professor of Psychology Biographies Kimberly McClane, PhD, MSN, MBA, RN Professor of NursingA specialist in the areas of gerontology, geropsychiatry, and human behavior, Dr. Kimberly McClane is a Professor of Mental Health and Human Behavior at IUON. She holds a Doctorate in Nursing from the University of San Diego. She was initially a graduate from Elgin Community College in Illinois from an Associate Degree program. Following
graduation, she moved to Southern California and worked an Emergency Department and Intensive Care RN. Completing her BA in Health Care Services, she represented Merck, Sharpe, and Dohme Pharmaceuticals as a Cardiovascular and Infectious Disease Representative and completed her Masters in Business Administration. Kimberly returned to school and completed her Certification as a Critical Care Nurse and Masters in Nursing Science at California State University Dominguez Hills. Following
graduation she became a lecturer and, eventually, a tenure-track professor for the University. She continues to focus on research relating to the geriatric patient and on learning assessments of the multicultural nursing student. Maureen McGuckin, MSN, RN Associate Professor of NursingMs. McGuckin has over twenty years of experience in nursing and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Her areas of expertise include advanced
medical-surgical nursing, emergency nursing and rural health nursing. She has worked clinically and instructed in large cities, urban and rural health care environments. She began her nursing education career in rural Washington State at Wenatchee Valley College while enrolled in a Masters of Science Degree program in nursing education. Her areas of interest include nursing theory, trans-cultural nursing and global health nursing. Ms. McGuckin continues to be passionate about
nursing care and instruction. Maureen is currently both an associate professor in nursing and course coordinator for Nursing 113 (Medical-Surgical Nursing Through the Lifespan). Maureen is open minded and understands student challenges. Maureen believes in positive reinforcement and tries to maintain a stress free forward thinking educational environment in the classroom. Agnes Beachman, PhD, BSN, RN, Associate Professor of NursingAgnes Beachman moved to St.
Kitts in 1996 from New York to become the Nursing Consultant to the Ministry of Health. In that role, she collaborated in the development of the Emergency Medical Services and assisted in developing the standards of nursing practice for the Federation. She holds a Masters of Science in both Public Administration and Health Services, as well as a PhD in Health Services from Berne University. Professor Beachman teaches pharmacology and coordinates the Infection Control Plan for the
University. Dr. Beachman has a special interest in the areas of substance abuse and diabetes. She has presented regularly on such topics as HIV and emergency management services. Her publication record includes a significant amount of time as a Member of the Editorial Board of Nursing Pulse at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Mary Jo Canon, MD, RN Professor of NursingMary Jo Cannon started her thirty year career in Emergency Medicine as an
Associate Degree Nurse graduating from Montgomery College in Tacoma Park, Maryland. She received a BA in Psychology with Honors from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. before going on to Medical School at University of Maryland in Baltimore. Following receipt of her M.D. she took residency training in Anesthesiology at George Washington University Hospital again in D.C., as preparation for her career in Emergency Medicine. Her practice took her to Western
Maryland where she had the opportunity to work in a level three shock-trauma designate for the majority of her career. After leaving Maryland, Dr. Cannon went onto offer her experience and knowledge in graduate medical education which brought her to the Federation of St. Kitts/Nevis. She established the Physical Diagnosis Department and implemented the clinical skills acquisition program in Medical University of the Americas from where she came to join the faculty of IUON. As
both a nurse and physician, Dr. Cannon brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to IUON. She loves to teach and dedicates many additional hours to helping student's succeed. Dr. Cannon currently teaches Physical Assessment. Naomi Rawlings, MSN, RN Assistant Professor of NursingA native of St. Kitts, Naomi Rawlings has practiced hospital and home care nursing for more than 34 years in Toronto, Ontario and in New York and Indiana. She holds a Bachelors
of Science in Nursing and a Masters of Science in Nursing Administration from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She and her husband returned to St. Kitts in 2006, where she is an assistant pastor in a local church. Naomi teaches nursing fundamentals as well as Parish Health Nursing. Gerri Mitchell, MHA, MSN, RN Assistant Professor of NursingGerri Mitchell came to IUON after retiring as Director of Surgical Services at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit,
Michigan, where she was responsible for the fiscal management, performance improvement, and clinical effectiveness for the Surgical and Anesthesia Services, with 30 operating rooms and 18,000 surgical procedures annually. She was also responsible for the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Graduate School. She brings a wealth of nursing and management / leadership expertise to IUON. Gerri has a Masters in Health Administration from Central Michigan University and a Masters in
Nursing from Rockville University in Michigan. Brenda Simmons, MSN, RN Assistant Professor of NursingBrenda Simmons came to the IOUN faculty in 2006 from Henry Ford Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan and the University of Michigan Hospital System in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Brenda blends her extensive clinical experience with her passion for developing the next generation of nurses. She is the lead instructor for Fundamentals of Nursing, the first course in the
nursing curriculum, and prides herself on setting the standard for the student nurse experience. Brenda holds a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Eastern Michigan University and a Masters of Science in nursing from the University of Phoenix. She was the recipient of the Henry Ford Health System Board of Trustees "Focus on People" Award in 2005. Cara Stone, MSN, RN Assistant Professor of NursingCara Stone simultaneously earned a Bachelor's of
Science degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee from 1990 to 1994. She then returned to Vanderbilt from 1996 to1998 to earn her Master's of Science degree in Nursing while specializing in Women's Health Care. She is certified by the National Certification Corporation for Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties as a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner. Professor Stone worked as a
Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner in hospital, clinic, and private office settings in Los Angeles from 1998 to 2006. In 2005 and 2006, she developed additional expertise in the specialty of colposcopy. Professor Stone began her nursing education career at the Harbor/UCLA Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program in 2005 where she taught Nurse Practitioner students how to deliver primary care to women. In 2006, she proudly joined our team at the International
University of Nursing. Frank Wagner, MA Professor of Psychology, Assistant ProvostFrank Wagner is experienced as a Dean and administrator. For twenty-three years, Mr. Wagner served as a senior administrator in mental health and substance agencies which provided clinical education to social work, psychology and counseling graduate students. He was the Associate Dean in the Office of Student Affairs at the Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica for
many years. He came to IUON as Dean of Student Services and focused on serving student, community and government constituencies by promoting a safe and healthy environment, including health and counseling services and disaster preparedness. He has been instrumental in developing student leadership, implementing judicial affairs and developing programs that not only celebrate the diversity of the student body but maintain cohesiveness as well. A specialist in the fields of
counseling and substance abuse treatment, Prof. Wagner lectures on introductory psychology and developmental psychology. Prof. Wagner earned his BS in Psychology from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, a MA in Clinical Psychology from Goddard in Plainfield, Vermont and a BBA in Management from Northwood Institute in Midland, Michigan. Thomas McCracken, MS Professor of AnatomyAn internationally known medical illustrator, Tom McCracken brings his unique and
exciting expertise in 3D computer imaging to the IUON anatomy and physiology classes. The use of computer imaging greatly enhances the teaching component of IUON's anatomy and physiology classes. A graduate of the University of Michigan with Masters Degrees in both medical illustration and anatomy and physiology, he has illustrated over 200 journal articles and textbooks during has career. Tom was also involved in a National Institute of Health project to construct three dimensional
interactive computer models which is used by most medical schools in the United States. Prior to joining IUON, he taught at Colorado State University and the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Saudi Arabia. His first priority is to the students, and is always available for them. Tom is an avid athlete, and just finished a new anatomy text book which will be published this fall. Adrian Pointer, DrPH, MB Professor of Anatomy and Physiology
Dr. Pointer is an epidemiologist and public health physician with a life-long interest in the education of health workers at all levels. He has designed and implemented training programs for primary care staff in a number of different countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean, including both campus- and field-based training. In fact he describes most of his own training as "on-the-job". He has designed and published learning materials, particularly targeting those
with limited educational background. Following a tour of duty as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Hawaii, he was appointed to Ross University School of Medicine, in Dominica in 1996, as Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine. In that position he was instrumental in developing the community health curriculum and in introducing the case-based learning program at the university. He joined the faculty of IUON in September 2004 to take over the Anatomy and Physiology
departments, with a view to integrating those subjects with the nursing science programs at the university. Mark Bernstein, MA Assistant Professor of English and History The global perspective of IUON is greatly enhanced through the experience and interest of Mark Bernstein. He was born in Los Angeles, California and graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a degree in Asian Studies. He then lived in Spain, France and Sweden for
twelve years where he was engaged in a variety of business and educational activities. In 1993 he was awarded a Master's Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from California State University at San Jose. Since then he has taught at universities in Thailand, Japan, Morocco, and the United States. Mark has a passion for teaching and he is greatly appreciated by his students and peers. His interest in foreign languages and culture has inspired him to travel the
world and learn its various languages so as to further the possibility of understanding between people. His work in teaching English as a Second Language also promotes communication possibilities and provides non-native speakers of English with the necessary language tools to accomplish their goals. |
